Wintergreen

No lullaby to send me to sleep,
no stars in the sky
just the tears as I cry for
these things
I can no longer keep.

If a minute would last me forever and
forever was here in my heart,
it could start to explain why
this pain that I feel
lasts forever and
will never depart.

As the images fade into grey and
the face I once saw floats softly away,
I see change in the air where the
mirror once saw
shallow youth.

The truth comes at last and as fast as
it comes
I run faster.

No lullaby to send me
to keep me and tend me
no stars in the skies
just the aging of eyes
that don’t see very well
anymore.
