Socially disconnected

We all think we’re riding shotgun
but we’re really on the run,
we’re told the control’s on hold
and to keep our distance.

Feeling fragile but in a while the meds will kick in
keep me ticking which is so sick but acceptable.

Safety is Paramount
I remember the films
I have films over my eyes,
they call them cataracts
which used to be waterfalls
I guess that’s why I’m crying.

Old jokes are throwaway
like old people?
I like old people,

I love those one-liners
from the old-timers,
the dry wit
the dry coughs.

Told my daughter that I survived the blitz
she said I wasn’t even alive in the war,
one of us was lying.
