This is not a five year program

It goes on until you realise
that images recorded digitally
will never fade and
there’ll be no more sepia
seeping into ya.

We’ll miss them old fadeouts
long ago memories of days out,
dads on deckhairs
mothers shouting
‘where are the kids’

we didn’t have au-pairs
only pairs of kippers
lightly poached
from the private river.

In the future
yesterday will be as bright as
the day was fifty years ago,
I’m not sure that I like that

I want some patina
a little bit of ageing.
which is still all the rage in
certain quarters.
